Responsible Design
We create spaces that not only respect the environment but are also inclusive, accessible, and support the creation of vibrant communities.
At MDO, we understand that design shapes the sustainability of our environment, affecting both people and nature. Inspired by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, we strive to build a better future by considering the ecosystems society depends on for water, materials, food, and energy.
We prioritise quality and durability, creating buildings that stand the test of time while delivering ongoing environmental and social benefits. Our approach to responsible design includes circular economy principles, such as designing for easy reuse and recycling and considering the entire lifecycle of building materials to minimise waste and maximise sustainability.
A Sustainable Practice
We are committed to continuous improvement, prioritising the well-being of our employees and the environmental impact of our daily activities.
Equally important is how we operate as a company, prioritising the well-being of our employees and the environmental impact of our daily activities. To this end, we are working towards achieving ISO 14001 certification for Energy Management Systems and are committed to continuous improvement. We also run regular CPD modules on sustainability, including education on Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI), ensuring that our entire team is aligned with our commitment to responsible and sustainable design.
Our Clients
We Empower Our Clients to Make Sustainable Choices
Many of our clients are committed to sustainability and have established ESG goals. We support them in achieving these objectives by providing the necessary data and insights to meet their non-financial reporting requirements. For clients whose real estate must align with the EU Taxonomy, we offer specific guidance to navigate the framework's criteria. This includes minimising carbon emissions through energy-efficient design, incorporating biodiversity-friendly landscaping, and optimising resource efficiency by selecting sustainable materials and construction methods. For those newer to sustainability, we guide them on their journey, showing the tangible value that sustainable practices can bring to their projects and business.
Our Sustainability Process
We integrate sustainability at every stage of our design and construction process
Our sustainability checklist incorporates environmental, social, and economic criteria throughout the project lifecycle to ensure alignment with standards like BREEAM and LEED. At the concept stage, we set clear goals, incorporating Passive House principles to enhance energy efficiency and comfort. We use Lifecycle Costing and Lifecyle Assessment to evaluate long-term financial and environmental impacts, while incorporating renewable technologies to improve energy efficiency.
Before construction, we implement Modern Methods of Construction and assess contractors' sustainability practices to ensure high standards. Our residential developments meet national standards, such as the Housing Performance Index, ensuring energy efficiency, resource optimisation, and occupant well-being.
